Actress Joy Bryant has been a supporter and recruiter for Oxfam’s Sisters on the Planet (SOP) initiative, which aims to help women around the world fight hunger, poverty, and climate change. She is featured in a suite of videos promoting SOP, alongside musician Thao and author Frances Moore Lappé.

Bryant became involved with Oxfam when she co-hosted a reception alongside Cosmopolitan magazine Editor Kate White in 2009 to discuss Oxfam’s work with women and the disproportionate impact that climate change has on them. The magazine later published a story about the event. Bryant then went on to represent Oxfam on Earth Day in 2009 on the National Mall in Washington, DC, where she spoke to more than 75,000, sharing her concerns about how climate change affects the world’s poorest, especially poor women. She urged the audience to join Oxfam and Sisters on the Planet.

Bryant traveled with Oxfam to Cambodia in 2010 on an SOP-sponsored trip. She met with women who are on the front lines of fighting climate change and its effects on their communities. Bryant and her experiences in Cambodia are also featured in the April 2011 issue of InStyle magazine.

In November 2010, Bryant also co-hosted a benefit for Oxfam at the Esquire House LA with fellow Oxfam Celebrity Ambassadors and supporters Mark Ruffalo, Colin Firth, Aziz Ansari and Anna Torv

This year, she has focused her efforts on lobbying for smarter disaster policy in Washington DC, and fighting injustices that drive poverty within the United States.
