Oxfam America Privacy Policy Oxfam America, Inc. (together with its U.S. affiliates and Oxfam America Action Fund, Inc., “Oxfam America”) owns and operates this website, including all pages hosted at www.oxfamamerica.org, all sub-domains hosted through our top-level domains, and those hosted through our online donations (collectively, "the Sites"). Oxfam America respects the privacy of its supporters. We have developed a rigorous Privacy Policy that reflects that respect and addresses how we collect and use the personal information collected through the Sites, as well as how we use donor information that may be provided to Oxfam America via other means.

The Privacy Policy does not apply to pages hosted by other organizations in the Oxfam confederation, including Oxfam International and other Oxfam organizations around the world (e.g., Oxfam GB, Oxfam Ireland, Oxfam Australia) or to any links to third party websites or applications. Oxfam will use reasonable efforts to the extent required by law to comply with requests to make corrections or deletions to your personal information and to provide you with certain reports or information relating to our use of your personal information. Information We Collect

Oxfam America may collect information regarding visitors to the Sites, including IP address, browser and domain information, and information volunteered by you, such as e-mail address, contact information (which may include phone numbers) and, for donations and purchases, credit card or banking information.

Some information we collect automatically when you use our Sites, such as visitor usage patterns, device and advertising identifiers, browser type, operating system, Internet service provider, pages that you visit before and after using the Sites, the date and time of your visit, information about the links you click, the pages you view, the general manner in which you navigate our Sites, and other standard server log information. We and third parties that provide content or functionality on our Sites, may use cookies, pixel tags, and similar technologies to automatically collect information. Oxfam America collects personal information provided to us by users of our Site, donors, and other supporters when they register to join our organization, become a member, make a donation or purchase online or offline, subscribe to our emails, take an action concerning an issue using our service or through our outreach, or otherwise participate in one of our online communities or outreach programs. Some users voluntarily agree to provide us with their mobile phone numbers.

We collect contact information from third parties who provide us with donor matching services so that we can provide more effective outreach for our fundraising activities. We may also receive information about you from other sources, including through third-party services and organizations. For example, if you access third-party services, such as Facebook or Google, through the Site to login to the Sites or to share information about your experience on the Sites with others, we may collect information from these third-party services. In addition, we may collect your personal information in connection with donations or gifts made by others in your name or honor. We will collect contact information of both the giver and the gift recipient so that we can complete the donation and provide proper notifications to the individuals involved.

Use of information

Oxfam America uses your personal information only in furtherance of our fundraising, educational, and advocacy objectives.

Oxfam America uses personal information to:

  • Provide and improve our Sites;
  • Contact you, including for fundraising purposes;
  • Fulfill your requests for products, services, and information;
  • Analyze the use of the Sites and user data to understand and improve the Sites, our programs, and outreach;
  • Customize advertising content you see when you visit other sites;
  • To enforce our Terms and Conditions and this Privacy Policy, and to prevent potentially prohibited or illegal activities; and
  • For any other purposes disclosed to you at the time we collect your information or pursuant to your consent.

We participate in Facebook’s custom audience and lookalike audience programs, which, depending on your privacy settings with Facebook, enable us to display our content to our existing or potential supporters on Facebook. We provide personal information such as your email address to Facebook in accordance with Facebook’s policy. Facebook’s policy is to securely encrypt your personal information and then delete it if it does not match a Facebook account or after they have confirmed that you have an account. Please note: We are aware of and sensitive to the issue of unsolicited e-mail ("spam"); therefore, Oxfam America will never rent, trade or sell your e-mail address to a third party for directed marketing of commercial products (we do not consider list sharing for charitable fundraising purposes to be commercial use). We may, from time to time, allow our service providers to draw conclusions regarding user behaviors from demographic and aggregated information. We may agree or collaborate with other reputable, charitable organizations or third party aggregators to write via postal mail or e-mail to some of each other's supporters, for the mutual benefit of both. If you would prefer not to have your information used in this manner, simply send us a request via e-mail to [email protected], with your exact name and address and a request to not share your information in this manner.

We may deidentify and aggregate personal information to draw conclusions relating to our programs and outreach and to support our fundraising efforts. Individuals cannot reasonably be identified through deidentified or aggregated information. We will use deidentified and aggregated information as appropriate for any legal purpose.

Text messaging terms and conditions

By providing us with your mobile phone number, you agree that we may contact you via text messaging. Recurring messages, message and data rates may apply. You may opt-out of receiving texts from us at any time.

  1. There is no fee from Oxfam America to receive text messages. Message and data rates may apply- this can be checked with your mobile service provider.
  2. Data obtained from you in connection with this SMS service may include your mobile phone number, your carrier’s name and the date, time and content of your messages. Alerts sent via SMS may not be delivered if the mobile phone is not in range of a transmission site, or if sufficient network capacity is not available at a particular time. Even within a coverage area, factors beyond the control of the wireless operator may interfere with message delivery, including the customer’s equipment, terrain, proximity to buildings, foliage, and weather. Wireless operators do not guarantee message delivery and will not be held liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  3. We will not be liable for any delays in the receipt of any SMS message as delivery is subject to effective transmission from your network operator.

Sharing of information

Oxfam America will share your personal information with others only as described in this Policy and when we have your specific consent or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.

Because Oxfam America is funded solely through private donations, we may exchange your personal information with our affiliates and with third party service providers who support or promote charitable fundraising and who may perform other marketing activities.

In addition, we may share personal information in the following circumstances:

  • With our third party vendors and service providers for certain services such as billing, payment processing, customer service, email deployment, business analytics, marketing, advertising, performance monitoring, hosting, and data processing.
  • With our corporate affiliates who have expressly agreed to this Policy.
  • To place advertisements to market Oxfam America on sites across the web. We place a cookie on your browser, and then a service such as Google reads these cookies and may serve an ad for Oxfam America on a 3rd party site. You may opt out of this ad serving by visiting Google’s advertising policy page. If you are concerned about 3rd party cookies served by networks, you should also visit the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
  • In connection with a corporate transaction or reorganization, such as a merger, consolidation, asset sale, or in the unlikely event of bankruptcy.

Oxfam America uses third party services throughout the Sites, such as Google Analytics 4, to place first party and/or third party cookies (see Cookies below) on devices that access the Sites. These cookies enable Oxfam America to track how our Sites are used, which portions of the Sites are visited and which items our visitors find most interesting and this information will be shared with Google. Oxfam America works diligently to ensure that our advertisements do not appear on extremist or fake news websites. However, due to the nature of digital advertising, this can occur without our knowledge. Update, correct, or delete personal information

The accuracy of your individual information is important to Oxfam America. Additionally, we have tried to streamline our operations by making it easy for you to control the information that we maintain about you. For inquiries or to change your personal information, please send an e-mail to [email protected]. You may also change your contact information by logging into our Supporter Portal.

If you reside in Colorado, Delaware, or Oregon, we are notifying you that your state’s law may require us to comply with the following general rights relating to our collection and use of your personal information:

  • The right to confirm whether and how we are processing your personal information
  • The right to correct inaccuracies
  • The right to require us to delete your personal information
  • The right to obtain a copy of your personal information in a portable format
  • The right to obtain a list of third parties to whom we have disclosed your personal information
  • The right to opt out of our processing of your personal information for any of the following purposes:

Security

Oxfam America takes reasonable steps to treat your personal information securely and to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of information that we have collected. Oxfam America uses industry-standard encryption technologies when transferring and receiving sensitive visitor data (e.g., financial information) within the Sites. All online donations are processed via third parties using secure servers. Oxfam America is PCI compliant and works only with vendors who are also PCI compliant for handling personal information and/or financial transactions. More information can be found on the PCI Security and Standards Council website. Secure payment tokens are generated when recurring donations are established to enable ongoing payment processing. Oxfam America does not store your credit card or banking information for future use. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, Oxfam America cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk.

Cookies

Cookies are small text-only files that are stored by your web browser that can be used to help identify you when you visit any of the Sites. A cookie cannot read data off of your computer hard disk, nor can it read cookie files created by other websites. We may use cookies to make visiting and using our Sites easier, for instance, so that you do not have to continually re-enter information, and so that we can tailor the Sites to your expressed preferences.

Pixel tags are very small images or small pieces of data embedded in images, also known as “web beacons” or “clear GIFs,” that can recognize cookies, the time and date a page is viewed, a description of the page where the pixel tag is placed, and similar information from your computer or device.

Children's privacy

Upon request, the parent or guardian of a child under 13 may review and request the deletion of such child’s personal information, as well as refuse to permit the further collection or use of such information. If we discover that a user is under the age of 13, we will delete their account and all personal information immediately.

Privacy rights for California residents

If you are a California resident, California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits you to request information regarding the disclosure of your personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To make such a request, please send an email to [email protected].

International Users

Our Sites are operated in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, you should be aware that we will collect, process, and maintain your information in the United States. If any provision of these Terms of Use is deemed unlawful, void or for any reason unenforceable, that provision will be deemed severable from these Terms of Use and will not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions.

By using the Oxfam America Sites, you agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and defend Oxfam America, its affiliates, and their respective directors, officers, employees, successors, agents, partners, contractors, and vendors (collectively, the "Oxfam America Parties") from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and all costs and expenses of defense, including but not limited to, attorneys' fees, resulting directly or indirectly from a claim (including without limitation, claims made by third parties for infringement of intellectual property rights) that arise in connection with (i) your use or misuse of any of the Sites; (ii) your breach of these Terms of Use; or (iv) your violation of any law or the rights of a third party. These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Massachusetts. You agree that any disputes relating to or arising out of the use of any of the Sites or any transaction undertaken through the Sites shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal or state courts located in Suffolk County.

In-Person Event Attendance

By attending events, you acknowledge that the risks of illness, bodily injury, and property damage or loss, risk of arrest and detention, are inherent in your participation. You assume all such risks and agree not to hold Oxfam America, Inc. or Oxfam America Action Fund, Inc. (collectively, “Oxfam America”) or any of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, contractors, or volunteers responsible for any personal injury, property damage, or other losses of any kind that result from your participation in the Event.

You further acknowledge that you may appear in photos, videos, and other recordings made at the Event (collectively, “Recordings”), and you agree that Oxfam America may use and allow others to use any such Recordings for any lawful purpose.

Notwithstanding any rules and guidelines issues by Oxfam America, you acknowledge and agree that you are not an employee, agent, or other representative of Oxfam America and that (you are) participating in your individual capacity. You further acknowledge that you will not be entitled to assistance from Oxfam America if you are arrested, detained, or otherwise harmed while participating in the Event.
