In response to President Trump releasing his proposed budget plan for fiscal year 2026, Oxfam America President and CEO Abby Maxman said:
“President Trump’s budget plan is a guidebook for stealing from the poor to give to the ultra-rich. From gutting life-saving humanitarian assistance abroad to slashing critical safety-net programs at home, President Trump is gambling with the well-being of people around the world to bankroll his ultimate priority of tax handouts for billionaires.
“This budget would cut billions in antipoverty and crisis-support programs both domestically and globally and further limit the United States’ ability to effectively respond to humanitarian crises. The Trump administration wants us to believe they’re ridding the government of ‘wasteful’ spending, but the fact is, investments in people pay off and are the right thing to do. Congress must reject these proposed cuts and instead commit to fully funding these essential programs.
“We have already seen the deadly consequences of slashing USAID funding, and now President Trump is continuing to place the burden of his economic agenda on the backs of ordinary families and the world’s poorest people. Families across the U.S. would lose vital support if this budget becomes law, while millions of people living through humanitarian crises around the world will continue to suffer and lose access to lifesaving food, water, and medicine. President Trump and his fellow billionaires are set to get a massive tax break, while he’s pushing a draconian budget that punishes the most marginalized.”
