Oxfam reaction to the updated IPC Food Security Analysis and Projection of the south of Yemen

By

Reacting to the IPC announcement on the levels of hunger in the south of Yemen and their forecast for the months ahead, Oxfam’s Yemen Country Director, Muhsin Siddiquey said:

“This new data shows how bleak the situation is for the millions of Yemenis struggling with hunger as conflict has decimated infrastructure, restricted food imports, and led to mass unemployment.

“For millions the COVID-19 pandemic is the final straw. Many families are having to choose between dying at home from hunger or going out to find food and dying from COVID-19.

“Donors urgently need to make sure that life-saving aid continues to flow to those most in need, and the international community should do everything in its power to bring about a nationwide ceasefire in Yemen and a return to inclusive peace negotiations.”
