FOR BETTER HEALTH: A DIY LATRINE
To improve the health of her family, a young mother in a refugee camp builds her own toilet.
When faced with a lack of accessible latrines, residents of Tierkidi refugee camp in South Sudan, where Oxfam is leading the effort to provide clean water and sanitation services, proposed a design that could be easily built and maintained. Since May 2022, residents have built 1,605 of these simple pit latrines themselves.
