Food, farming, and hunger

Hunger isn't about too many people and too little food. It's about power.

What's wrong

Right now, one in nine people goes to bed hungry every night. Not because there isn’t enough food to go around, but because of deep power imbalances and lack of access to resources like fertile land and clean water.

Making it right

Fighting hunger means, first and foremost, making sure that people can access the food they need. But Oxfam’s GROW campaign also aims to address the root causes of hunger by bringing people together to challenge injustice.

Take action against hunger

As we celebrate our harvest this fall, let's take a closer look at what we eat, who grows our food, and where it comes from. You can support family farmers who put food on tables around the world, and take steps to end the injustice of hunger.

A food system in crisis

Food connects all of us, no matter where we live. But the power to control the resources behind our global food supply sits neither with the billion-plus farmers who produce food, nor with the billions of consumers who eat it.

Instead, companies and governments control the global food system—and they often determine who eats and who doesn’t.

As consumers and voters, we have the power to change this. GROW is Oxfam’s campaign to build a better food system: one that sustainably feeds a growing population and empowers poor people to earn a living, feed their families, and thrive. With supporters in more than 50 countries, GROW aims to make sure everyone has a seat at the table. We’re taking action to end the injustice of hunger, making smarter choices in our own lives, and calling on companies and lawmakers to change the policies that keep people from accessing the resources they need.
