Ideas that Inspire

WHAT CAN MY OFFICE OR BUSINESS DO?

On average, we spend almost one-quarter of our lives at work, so our co-workers are often more “friends and family” than colleagues. Invite this chosen family to join your efforts to raise awareness and funds for poor people around the world. Hold events that benefit Oxfam America at your place of business.

  • Skip a Meal for Oxfam
Turn your lunch hour into a companywide event to Skip a Meal for Oxfam! Ask your co-workers to skip their lunch for one day and contribute the money they would have spent to Oxfam.
  • Match your donation with company funds
Check with your company’s human resources manager or department and see if they provide matching funds to your charitable donation to Oxfam America.
  • Pledge a percentage of revenues for a day
Have your company, business, or local civic association agree to donate a percentage of revenues for one business day to Oxfam’s work to fight global hunger.
  • Organize "Lunch and Learns" at your company
Invite the director of an area food bank or shelter, or a returned Peace Corps volunteer to speak during the lunch hour at your business’s cafeteria.
  • Challenge co-workers to an intra-office competition
Organize a series of games to raise money for Oxfam’s global poverty work. Pit business units against each other, or managers against subordinates, in a fun, interactive competition.
  • Host an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet® event
Share this unique learning experience with your co-workers in your company’s cafeteria. Or speak to your human resources manager about donating items for your event.

Classifieds that Care
The Missoula Independent created a section in their weekly journal called “Neighbor to Neighbor and Soul to Soul.” This section offers a space for local, private, and non-profit social service agencies to promote their work. All advertising revenue from this section was donated to the Missoula Food Bank and Oxfam.
