WHAT CAN MY COLLEGE DO?
Oxfam America depends on the enthusiasm and caring of students and teachers—grade school, high school, and university alike—to aide in our work around the world. To that end, we offer students a wide range of opportunities to become better educated and join the fight against global poverty and social injustice.
What can my college or university do?
- Declare a Hunger Week at your school
Organize a week-long series of events to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger. Plan a different event for each day of the week. Successful Hunger Weeks have included benefit and services auctions, concerts, Dining Hall Fasts, speakers’ panels, athletic events, and Oxfam America Hunger Banquet® events. - Stage a Dining Hall Fast
The quintessential Fast event for college campuses, the Dining Hall Fast has the potential to reach a lot of students and raise significant funds to aide in the fight against poverty and hunger. - Host an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet® event
Nothing brings to life the inequalities in our world more dramatically than an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet. This dinner theatre with a message helps organizers and participants alike realize firsthand how our decisions affect others in the world. - Hold a bake sale in the university commons
With every baked item sold, include information on Oxfam's work in the areas of global poverty and hunger. - Show an Oxfam video
Refer to the Order Form to order free videos and educational materials that you can use at your event. - Challenge students to an intra-dorm competition
Think of fun ways to have students use their school spirit in competitions that raise money and awareness about hunger in our world.
