Publication Summary

Oxfam joined with the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) of Sri Lanka to assess the disaster management policies enacted by the government of Sri Lanka after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The findings, which led to changes in some of the policies, offer insights into translating national government policies into local practices, the role of NGOs and the private sector, and the increasing importance of disaster risk reduction.
