Publication Summary

Dealing with the complexities of market-based livelihoods and the challenge of alleviating poverty required careful investigation of both the local and global context in which the coir workers and paddy farmers found themselves. To better understand these sectors, Oxfam joined forces with three research institutes in Sri Lanka to explore how to not only restore, but improve the livelihoods of these workers after the tsunami.
