Congress: Work with developing countries to fight corruption and injustice

This week, Oxfam America published an open letter to Congress from a group of 16 community leaders from developing countries around the world. The letter, which was featured in CQ Daily and Roll Call, asks that the US partner with leaders and activists who are fighting corruption and defending human rights, while risking their lives to change their home countries for the better.

"USAID is strengthening its ability to partner with us by eliminating large, inflexible contracts and working more directly with local governments, businesses, and civil society organizations like ours. These are crucial requirements for fighting corruption and defending human rights ... We hope you will support USAID's efforts to invest modest sums—less than one third of its total investments—through local watchdogs, businesses, and governments in developing countries."
