The Trump administration has announced that the US will only accept 45,000 refugees in the next 12 months – the lowest refugee admission cap in the history of the US refugee resettlement program.
Close to 1.2 million refugees have been flagged by the UN as requiring urgent resettlement in a new country within the next year due to their lives, liberty, safety, health, or other fundamental rights being at risk.
Whether they are fleeing ongoing conflict in Syria, food insecurity and violence in South Sudan, or civil war in Somalia, refugees have no other option than to seek shelter in a country like the United States. These vulnerable people deserve the chance to rebuild their lives in safety.
All hope is not lost. President Trump still has time to revise his decision on the number of refugees admitted. Welcoming refugees is an American value, a value we will fight to defend.
Help us send a message that refugees are welcome in our communities.
We’ve created these downloadable posters that you can print and display in your homes, community bulletin boards, and your children’s schools (with permission of course). Please post them up to show that your community believes in welcoming refugees!
