Oxfam reaction to planned reinstatement of 'Remain in Mexico' policy

By

In response to the Biden administration's latest court filing announcing its intention to reinstate the 'Remain in Mexico' policy in November, Oxfam America Global Policy Lead Noah Gottschalk said the following:

"The 'Remain in Mexico' policy is a travesty, and reinstating it would imperil the lives of people seeking safety and protection in the US.

"This illegal and immoral Trump-era policy created a humanitarian catastrophe, and the Biden administration was right to terminate it back in June.

"Past experience has proven that this policy causes immeasurable harm to people seeking asylum every single day that it is in place. Its reinstatement would be a betrayal of President Biden's commitment to building a humane asylum system.

"With people's lives on the line, the Biden administration must move swiftly to lawfully end this policy before it can wreak even more havoc."
