Farm Bill Action Alert

URGENT: House of Representatives to Vote on the Farm Bill This Week. Tell Congress to Stand Up for Poor Farmers Here and Abroad.

LEARN

Time is running out for Congress to do the right thing on the Farm Bill. If a few key US representatives don’t take a stand in the next few days, the House could sell out poor farmers with policies that could have devastating effects on rural communities here and abroad. Oxfam is encouraging all our supporters and allies to ask their representatives to vote YES on the Fairness Amendment to the Farm Bill. The amendment would shift funds from trade-distorting subsidies into other priorities, such as food stamps, conservation, and programs that help minority and socially disadvantaged farmers. It will help America take important first steps on a new course toward real reform of family farm and food policy.

ACT

The House could vote as early as this Thursday! Since every vote matters, can you take a moment to call your representative today?

For your convenience, we have set up a toll-free 800 number with simple instructions on what to say.

  • Please call 1-800-977-1912
  • An automated message will give you a brief introduction.
  • When prompted, press the pound key (#) to reach the Capitol switchboard and ask to be connected to your representative’s office.

Be sure to tell the staff member who answers the phone that you are a constituent and want your representative to vote YES ON THE FAIRNESS AMENDMENT to the Farm Bill. You want a Farm Bill that shifts away from trade-distorting subsidies, caps payments at $250,000, and uses the savings to help poor and minority farmers, the environment, and families that depend on food stamps.

CHANGE

It will only take a minute. A few well-placed calls from people like you who want their tax dollars used fairly to help the nation’s poorest farmers could have a tremendous impact. Please call today!
