What Oxfam is Doing
Helping Communities Manage Aquatic Resources
Oxfam has established a network of partners who are working with communities, local organizations, and governments throughout the East Asia region to better manage aquatic resources. Specifically, Oxfam works to:
- Strengthen fishing communities through the proper management of community fishing territories and representation of their interests to key decision makers.
- Influence governments to consult fishing communities about fishing regulations, proposed development projects, and other decisions that affect their industry.
- Foster widespread respect for aquatic resources, so fishers will refrain from unsustainable practices and governments will regulate the equipment and practices employed by commercial operations.
