Janet McKinley

Chair, Oxfam America Board of Directors

After 25 rewarding years in the investment business, Janet McKinley decided to move on to a new chapter—finding more effective ways to sustainably alleviate global poverty.  In 2004, she retired from Capital Research and Management Company (CRMC) which oversees mutual fund assets in excess of $1.3 trillion.  During her career at Capital, Ms. McKinley served as one of the company's directors of research, responsible for building the research team to support a new global investment unit in the early 90's.  She ultimately became a director of CRMC and the Chairperson of the Income Fund of America (IFA), one of the ten largest mutual funds in the United States, along with managing money in both IFA and the Capitol Income Builder Fund (a global equity income fund).

Prior to joining Capital in 1982, Ms. McKinley was the manager of investor relations and a financial analyst for International Paper Company. She graduated summa cum laude from Smith College (Phi Beta Kappa) and attended the University of Krakow, Poland, as a Fulbright Scholar. She also attended the New York University Graduate School of Business.

In recent years, Ms. McKinley has become increasingly involved in efforts to help micro-finance institutions access commercial financial markets in order to significantly scale up their operations.  In addition to her role as Chair of Oxfam America, Ms. McKinley serves on the boards of Smith College, Give to Asia, and the Deutsche Bank Microfinance Consortium Fund.
