Muthoni Muriu provides strategic leadership and management oversight for Oxfam America’s Regional Programs Department. In addition to steering policymaking and systems integration, she is responsible for ensuring that Oxfam’s regionally based programs are well resourced and have impact on the lives of poor men and women.
She has 20 years of experience in international development work and has a passion for social justice issues. Prior to joining Oxfam America in 2006, Muthoni worked for Oxfam Great Britain for six years, first as Regional Policy Advisor for West and Southern Africa and then as Regional Program Manager for West Africa. She also spent one year working for Oxfam International as Head of Pan African Trade Advocacy. Before joining Oxfam, she worked for more than 10 years with various regional organizations in Africa, focusing on international policy and development issues.
She is fluent in English, French, and Kiswahili. Muriu holds a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the London School of Political Science and Economics and an MSc in Public Policy and Management from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
