Board chair
Janet McKinley, Chair, Oxfam America Board of Directors
After 25 rewarding years in the investment business, Janet McKinley decided to move on to a new chapter—finding more effective ways to sustainably alleviate global poverty. In 2004, she retired as chairman of the Income Fund of America and as a director of Capital Research and Management Company, which oversees mutual fund assets in excess of $1.3 trillion. In recent years, McKinley has become increasingly involved in efforts to help low-income women and small-scale farmers in developing countries gain access to financial services in order to manage their risks and significantly improve their economic situations. In addition to her role as chair of Oxfam America, McKinley serves on the boards of Oxfam International, Smith College, the Deutsche Bank Global Commercial Microfinance Consortium, MicroCredit Enterprises, and the Synapse Market Access Fund. She graduated summa cum laude from Smith College (Phi Beta Kappa) and attended the University of Krakow, Poland, as a Fulbright Scholar. She also attended the New York University Graduate School of Business.
