Human Resources Generalist

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Using a collaborative approach provides support, perspective and recommendations across a wide range of human resource issues specifically relating to labor and employee relations, diversity, and change management.

 

The Global Human Resources Generalist (GHRG) is responsible for the administration and application of various Human Resources practices and policies and is typically the first line of contact for employees and managers regarding Human Resources related questions and or issues.  Additionally, the GHRG is charged with providing resolution to those questions or issues independently or with the assistance of the Global Human Resources Manager (GHRM) where appropriate.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Act as a key Global Human Resources partner to Oxfam America, providing assistance and guidance with regard to human resources matters. Address issues presented by managers such as employee disciplinary action, career progression and leave.  Typically resolves these issues independently but will escalate to the Global Human Resources Manager when appropriate.
  2. Participate and may lead in the development, implementation and integration of strategies to improve both organizational and individual performance and effectiveness through performance management, training and development, professional development, and succession planning. 
  3. Participate and act in a confidential capacity to management personnel who formulate, determine and effectuate agency labor relations policy, including, but not limited to, the following: 
    • Participate as a member of the management negotiating committee in preparing for contract negotiations by researching, assembling negotiation materials and attending briefing and negotiation sessions

    • Support managers in investigating, assessing and responding to grievances

  4. Liaise with the Agency’s outside labor and employment counsel in working with contract negotiations, contract administration, grievance administration and related matters.
  5. Support employee relations and labor relations functions, develop and implement employee relations programs to foster a positive work environment and promote a high level of employee morale, productivity and engagement.
  6. Responsible for coordinating and providing Orientation to new staff.
  7. Monitor and report on HR statistics such as turnover, benefits utilization, pay equity and other statistics as requested by HR management.
  8. Participate in the general administration of the HR office, including maintaining and updating the HR database, generating accurate and timely reports, monitoring compliance with employment and labor laws.
  9. Maintain HRIS data integrity as applicable.
  10. Manage special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a field related to Human Resources.

 

Experience and Core Competencies:


  • Minimum 5+ years experience working in Human Resources with specific experience in and strong knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices, methods, and programs relating to employee and labor relations in a global environment.
  • Knowledge of formal and informal dispute resolution methodology, procedures, and techniques.
  • Proficient organizational and administrative skills, able to prioritize workload and multi-task.
  • Team Player - eager to take on challenges and work as part of a team
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Computer skills including MS office.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential along with a basic understanding of user friendliness and customer service.

 

Preferred

 

  • International work experience.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish or French .
