Access to Resources Creates Opportunities
Goal: $10 million
Dismantling the obstacles that prevent poor people from achieving their potential requires multiple strategies. Helping communities defend their rights to crucial resources such as water, forests, and farmland is one of the most important ones.
Poor people are often pushed onto depleted lands where they try to survive using scarce local resources, a process that saps these resources further. Poverty then becomes a threat to the environment, and a damaged environment exacerbates poverty.
Our commitment is to help communities exercise their rights to build their own successes. That means helping them find ways to participate in decisions that affect their ability to make a living and to understand their role in the sustainable stewardship of the resources on which they depend.
Through The Campaign for Oxfam America we will:
- Expand programs that support the rights of indigenous and marginalized people
- Improve access to natural resources
- Support sustainable water and land management to improve health, agriculture, and livelihoods
