Established in 1969, Southern Mutual Help Association (SMHA) is a non-profit organization that advocates for changes in policies and structures that create and maintain severe poverty in southern Louisiana with a focus on displaced people. SMHA has brokered investments totaling $22 million in rural housing and community development to create jobs, improve health, provide adult and youth leadership training, build economic and environmental assets, and support sustainable agriculture.
