Red Tomato works to increase economic viability for small-scale family farmers by providing reliable, long-term markets. Red Tomato also educates consumers and increases their access to the freshest and highest quality fruits and vegetables through a combination of market development and community education, organizing, and media outreach. Red Tomato is an offshoot of Equal Exchange, a worker-owned, fair trade coffee business that Oxfam partnered with to create Café Salvador. Red Tomato collaborates with the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund, another Oxfam partner, to purchase and market produce from minority farmer co-ops in the South.
