The Missouri Rural Crisis Center (MRCC) seeks to preserve family farms, promote stewardship of the land and environmental integrity, and strive for economic and social justice by building unity and mutual understanding among diverse groups, both rural and urban. MRCC challenges corporate domination of the food supply, advocating for fair food and farm policies at the state and federal levels. In 1992, MRCC created Patchwork Family Farms, an economic development project that buys hogs from its 12 member farmers and markets the meat under its own label. Patchwork pays farmers a fair price for their livestock and demonstrates the economic viability of family farms.
