The Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) is a national organization devoted to securing environmental justice for Native people. Its Indigenous Mining Project was created to empower indigenous peoples to protect the environment and the health of their communities from the spiritual, cultural, economic, social, and environmental impacts of mining and oil and gas extraction, primarily in the western US. It serves as an information clearinghouse and a network, helping grassroots groups voice their concerns before tribal, state, federal, and international policymakers on issues of environmental protection, health, livelihoods, and traditional knowledge.
