Oxfam America Donates Food and Office Equipment to Local Orphanage

Asia office supports local Cambodian community.

In what has become a yearly tradition, Oxfam America’s East Asia regional office made a donation to its favorite local orphanage in May. The operations staff of the Asia office reconnected with Aspeca Orphanage Center in Kampot Town, Cambodia with an in-person delivery of office equipment computers, scanners, a digital camera, and 150 kg of rice. The children received schoolbags, books, toys, and pictures to decorate their rooms.

Thanks to the new equipment, Aspeca Orphanage set up a computer lab complete with 12 work stations.

“We are very happy,” said Em Sovanny, coordinator of Aspeca Orphanage. “We can provide more training not only for our children but also kids who live nearby.”

For the Asia office staff, the donation represents just one way Oxfam tries to go above and beyond funding and providing strategic advice to our local partner organizations. We also try to give back to the communities where we work.

“We are happy to see that things that we don’t need in our office anymore, can help improve children’s education,” said Suy Molika, regional administrator of Oxfam America in East Asia. “Also, it was great to get our team out from the office and meet these children again.”

Aspeca Orphanage shelters 56 children, newborns to 18-year-olds, who have lost their parents to AIDS.
