Two years after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast, Betty Jane Adams is finally set to move out of her FEMA trailer and into a new home. But it's not just any home. This one stands—more than 11 feet off the ground—as a model for what the future of coastal rural living could look like. Built in collaboration between Oxfam America, TRAC, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Louisiana Lift House holds promise for the bayous and beyond.
