What Oxfam is Doing
Oxfam partners with other organizations to educate millions of people about unfair trade rules and their negative impact on poor communities. We mobilize concerned citizens like you through petitions and coordinated actions.
Our worldwide Make Trade Fair campaign focuses on several necessary changes:
- Eliminating agricultural export subsidies to end overproduction and expose dumping by wealthy countries.
- Establishing stable, higher prices for primary commodities and better pay for small farmers everywhere.
- Eliminating conditions to International Monetary Fund/World Bank loans that force poor countries to open their markets to foreign goods, regardless of the impact on their people.
- Adopting fair patent rules on pharmaceuticals so poor countries can afford basic medicine.
- Creating a more democratic World Trade Organization, that gives poor countries a stronger voice.
- Developing national and regional trade policies that give poor people access to markets and the benefits from trade.
- Encouraging rich countries to remove barriers to imports from all poor countries.
