Rock Darfur Concert featuring Nicole Atkins and the Sea and Mercer Ave
Columbia Record recording artist Nicole Atkins and the Sea along with local band Mercer Ave. will perform a benefit concert on January 8th at 7 p.m. at the Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan , New Jersey. Nicole has been a recent guest on Letterman and has appeared in an American Express commercial. She is a native of the Jersey Shore and is one of Columbia Records rising stars. Tickets are available online at Etix.com. The proceeds will be divided between Oxfam America and Savedarfur. The event was conceived and planned by CHS (Communications High School) Senior Andrew D'Amico and sponsored by Step of Faith Ministries. MLK DAY & OXFAM HUNGER BANQUET-SPONSORED BY ROMA PIZZERIA AND SERVEWYOMING!
Oxfam Hunger Banquet at First United Methodist Church, 302 East 2nd St. The Hunger Banquet is not your typical lunch. It is a workshop about hunger. All are welcome to attend this eye opening workshop about the inequalities in our world. Guests draw a ticket at random and are assigned to either a high-, middle-, or low-income tier and receive a corresponding meal. Throughout the facilitated workshop guests are invited to share their thoughts, what they’ve learned and how they can take action. This year’s Hunger Banquet is sponsored in part by Roma’s Pizzeria and ServeWyoming.

Oxfam Hunger Banquet
In recognition of MLK Day, Southwestern Oregon Community College will conduct it's second annual Hunger Banquet in conjunction with a week full of presentations, speakers, entertainment, and service opportunities open to students, staff, and the community. The Hunger Banquet will kick off the college's events on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, and will include a Faces of Homelessness panel. Please contact Julia Rose at jrose@socc.edu for more information.

OXFAM Banquet
Rensselaer will host an OXFAM Banquet as part of its Human Rights Week week activities commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. The event will feature speaker Mark Dunlea, the Executive Director of the Hunger Action Network of New York.

February 6
Kingswood-Oxford School Hunger Banquet
This event, hosted by the Kingswood-Oxford Global Awareness Organization, will be a educational celebration. Each guest will pick an economic level out of a hat (first world, second world, ect.) and will dine accordingly. A few individual projects will be set up around the room, and we will be raffling off some donated goods. Some student musical groups will also be featured. We will show a few film clips about world hunger and will be joined by some international nutrition and poverty experts. It will be a fun and very inspirational night.

Hunger No More -- A Hunger Crisis Conference
We will begin Friday, February 27, 2009 with an Oxfam Hunger Banquet and special presentation from documentary filmaker, Gerry Straub. David Beckmann (President, Bread for the World) – one of the foremost advocates for hungry people in the world – will be offering a keynote address on Saturday, February 28, 2009. Flanking David Beckman will be a cadre of distinguished activists in the anti hunger movement. Presenters in six breakout sessions will cover such topics as: - Global Hunger: Systems, Snafus, and (Possible) Solutions (Panel Discussion) - Local Hunger: Systems, Snafus, and (Possible) Solutions (Panel Discussion) - Advocacy and Public Policy: Empowerment for Change - The Experience of Hunger: Documentary & the Human Face of Hunger - Climate Change and Famine: Hunger in a Changing World - Student Activism and Hunger (Panel Discussion) The conference will open and close with inter-faith prayer services
