Boston, MA – International relief and development organization Oxfam America is proud to announce Dan Glickman has joined its Board of Directors. Glickman is currently the Director of Congressional Programs at the Aspen Institute and a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, DC.  Glickman was previously the Director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

“Dan is an excellent addition to Oxfam’s Board,” said Raymond C. Offenheiser, president of Oxfam America.  “We are lucky to have someone with his breadth of experience in agriculture and policy to help advise us and enhance the work of the organization.”

From 1995 to 2001 Glickman served as the Secretary of Agriculture. Under his leadership, the department administered numerous farm and conservation programs; modernized food safety regulations; and improved its commitment to fairness and equality in civil rights, both in the treatment of its employees and in the execution of its programs. During his tenure, the department also focused extensively on improving our nation's diet and nutrition and on fighting hunger. Glickman led the effort to ensure an effective regulatory process based on sound science governs new agricultural technologies.

“Dan will make an invaluable contribution to Oxfam’s new global GROW campaign to ensure everyone always has enough to eat,” said Offenheiser. “His leadership and knowledge on international food security issues will strengthen our campaign and create new opportunities for Oxfam to forge lasting solutions to hunger and poverty.”

Glickman served for 18 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Kansas' 4th Congressional District. During part of his service he was a member of the House Agriculture Committee, including six years as chairman of the subcommittee that had jurisdiction over most federal farm policy issues. He currently serves on the board of directors of numerous organizations including the Food Research and Action Center and the Center for U.S. Global Engagement.  He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a senior fellow of the Center on Communication Leadership and Policy at the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism and serves on the board of trustees of the National 4-H Council. Glickman is the Chicago Council on Global Affairs' global agricultural development initiative co-chair and vice chair of the Friends of WFP-USA. Glickman is the author of "Farm Futures," which was published in Foreign Affairs magazine.
