AJA-Mali was created in 1995 by artisan-organizers concerned by the lack of opportunities and adequate training facilities for unemployed young men and women living in Mali's urban and suburban areas. AJA Mali seeks to organize the informal sector and put in place a structured mechanism for young artisans to enable them to attain economic self-reliance and participate in the political space existing under Mali's current liberal, decentralized, and democratic regime. AJA-Mali works to reinforce cooperative economic systems at the local level, and gives youth access to funding and skilled training.
