Founded in 1992, ZWLA is an NGO made up of women lawyers that works to improve the legal status of women and children through maximum utilization of the law, and works to amend laws and policies that do not accord women the right of recognition as equal members of society. ZWLA is the only legal aid organization in Zimbabwe focused on women and was one of two organizations on the Task Force of the National Constitution Assembly to spearhead the reform of the national constitution.The association also educates Zimbabwean women about their legal rights and provides legal advice and representation to poor or indigenous women.
