Established in the 1940's, AWC works to improve the standard of living of poor rural women. Historically, AWC is well-known for its skills development program centered on income-generating activities, such as producing and marketing vegetable goods and handcrafts. But AWC also helps rural women obtain skills in the areas of health and nutrition, childcare, and literacy,and promotes the dissemination of information to women and increased participation in civic affairs.
