AMCS

Associaçao Moçambicana Da Mulher Na Comuniçao Social

(MOZAMBIQUE MEDIA WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION)

MAPUTO, Mozambique

AMCS was founded in 1993 by a group of female journalists seeking to address the problems women face in the media industry, increase the access to information for the illiterate majority grassroots population, and generate support for stronger women's voices in the media. AMCS established the only radio station in Mozambique controlled by women journalists, dedicated to empowering and mobilizing women to participate in public affairs and debate. The community radio station is an effective information, communication, and education tool for empowering grassroots communities, since the women make up the majority of the poor illiterate sectors of the community.
