Founded in 2000, AEPDI is a community-based organization located in El Estor, Izabal, in the northern part of Guatemala. AEPDI works to improve the respect for human rights (especially cultural rights) for the El Estor population. AEPDI has recently been leading a broad opposition to oil exploration in Izabal Lake, considered by UNESCO as one of the most important places in the world for biodiversity conservation.
