Oxfam International
Oxfam America is part of a 12-member confederation of development organizations— Oxfam International. Oxfam International operates under the principle that all people should enjoy certain rights, including the rights to a livelihood, peace and security, gender and political equity, and participation in decisions that affect their lives. In defense of these rights, Oxfam International organizations fund development projects in more than 100 countries, collaborating on strategic, long-term efforts to help build strong local organizations that can promote self-sufficiency.
In critical areas, Oxfam International affiliates join forces to bring about change. Together, they push for changes in international policies related to trade, conflict, funding for education, development assistance, debt relief and other issues. Affiliates also work to educate and mobilize the public and raise awareness of global poverty.
Finally, Oxfam International affiliates provide rapid humanitarian assistance in emergencies. In incidences of war, natural disaster, and other crises, the Oxfams funnel funds, contribute expertise, and influence key actors to relieve suffering and help communities get back on the road to a healthy, sustainable future.
