Reform the 2007 Farm Bill
Current trade policies have proven disastrous for small farmers. Poor countries have been forced to open their markets to subsidized exports dumped by wealthy countries. Oxfam America is campaigning to reform policies that protect rich US farmers and discriminate against poor farmers around the world.
Fair Trade Coffee
Over 25 million coffee growers and their families face starvation due to the international coffee crisis. Why such poverty? Over the past three years, the price of coffee has fallen almost 50 percent and now hovers near a 30-year low.
Free Trade Agreements
Free Trade Agreements in the Americas, Africa, and Asia could devastate millions of poor people. Trade agreements must ensure people's right to a steady food supply, rules of investment that protect local development, and access to medicines.
Workers' Rights
Big buyers, like institutional food services and fast food companies, are buying greater volumes of produce at increasingly cheaper prices. As a result, nearly two million immigrant farmers in the US toil without rights, earn sub-standard wages, and live in dehumanizing conditions
Right to Know, Right to Decide
Oxfam America is calling on international oil, gas, and mining companies to show their respect for poor communities’ right to know and right to decide. We are engaging with the public, government, private sector, and the international community. Each group can help respect the rights of poor people and contribute to the long-term reduction of poverty.
Control Arms
There are over 600 million small arms and light weapons in the world today, and over eight million more are produced every year. Unless governments act to stop the spread of arms, more lives will be lost, more human rights violations will take place, and more people will be denied the chance to escape poverty.
ONE Campaign
The ONE Campaign is engaging Americans through a diverse coalition of faith-based and anti-poverty organizations to show the steps people can take, ONE by ONE, to fight global poverty. We're not asking for your money. We're asking for your voice.
Make Trade Fair
World trade could be a powerful force for reducing poverty, if poor people could sell their products at a decent price. What is stopping them? The gross injustices of the world trade system.
